Frequent Questions

How do you scope and price a project?
We start with a short discovery conversation to understand the outcome you need, then produce a written scope that describes what the software will let people do. Pricing follows that scope — either a fixed price for well-defined work, or a time-and-materials rate where the requirements are still taking shape. You get the estimate and the assumptions behind it in writing before anything is committed.
How long does a typical project take?
A focused web application or a first mobile release is usually eight to sixteen weeks from kickoff to launch. Larger platform work runs longer and is broken into phases so you see working software every few weeks rather than waiting until the end. We sequence the riskiest parts first, so schedule surprises surface early while they are still cheap to absorb.
Do you work with existing systems and legacy code?
Yes. A good share of our work is extending, integrating or gradually replacing software that is already running the business. We begin with a review of the current codebase and data, then recommend whether to extend, refactor or rebuild — and we will say so plainly if rebuilding is not the right call.
Who owns the code and the intellectual property?
You do. On completion, the source code, the repository history and any associated assets are yours, and we hand over the documentation and credentials needed to run it without us. We do not hold clients hostage through access.
What happens after launch?
Launch is the start of the useful feedback, not the end of the project. We offer ongoing support covering monitoring, security updates, bug fixes and small enhancements, scaled to what the product actually needs. If you would rather run it with your own team, we will help with the handover and training instead.
Which technologies do you build with?
We choose the stack to suit the problem and your team rather than defaulting to one toolkit. In practice that most often means modern JavaScript and PHP on the web, native or cross-platform frameworks on mobile, and mainstream relational databases. Where you already have in-house skills, we weight the decision toward technology your people can maintain.
How do you handle quality assurance and testing?
Testing is part of the build, not a phase bolted on at the end. That means automated tests around the logic that matters, code review on every change, and a staging environment where you can try each release before it goes live. For regulated or data-sensitive work we agree the test evidence you need up front.
Can you work with our internal team?
Yes. We take on full project delivery, and we also work as an embedded extension of an existing team — supplying specific skills, reviewing architecture, or adding capacity for a defined period. We will agree in writing who owns which decisions so accountability stays clear.
Do you only work with clients in Atlantic Canada?
We are based at 770 St George Blvd in Moncton and a lot of our work is regional, which means we can meet face to face when that helps. We also deliver remotely for clients elsewhere in Canada and beyond, working to your timezone for the parts of the process that need live conversation.
How do we get started?
Email us at info@atlanticbyte.ca with a short description of what you are trying to achieve. We will come back with questions, arrange a call to work through the detail, and follow up with a written scope and estimate. There is no charge for that first conversation.
